How to plant the bulbs

  • For a Layered Spring Flowering Pot, bulbs are purchased in Autumn for planting in September and October.
  • Instructions regarding the required depth and  months for flowering are given on the packaging  or on shop signage.
  • Bulbs are planted with their pointed end facing up ensuring that the root base is in  close contact with the soil/ compost mix .
  • Once the base layer of compost mix is placed in the pot begin placing the bulbs in order starting with the last flowering bulb .
  • The 1st layer of bulbs used are Daffodil Bulbs ( bulbs) x 9, placed upwards in a circle, not touching each other, approximately an inch apart. Cover these bulbs with 2 inches of the compost mix.
  • The 2nd layer of bulbs used are Tulip Bulbs (large bulbs) x 7, placed upwards in a circle, not touching each other, approximately an inch apart. Cover these bulbs with 2 inches of the compost mix.
  • The 3rd layer of Bulbs used are Alliums (small bulbs) x 5, placed upwards in a smaller circle, not touching each other. Cover these bulbs with 2 inches of the compost mix.
  • The 4th layer of Bulbs used are a mix of Chinodoxa (small bulbs)  x 5 , Crocus (small bulbs) x 8 plus Bluebells (small bulbs) x 5 placed upwards in a circle, not touching each other.
