For a Layered Spring Flowering Pot, bulbs are purchased in Autumn for planting in September and October.
Instructions regarding the required depth and months for flowering are given on the packaging or on shop signage.
Bulbs are planted with their pointed end facing up ensuring that the root base is in close contact with the soil/ compost mix .
Once the base layer of compost mix is placed in the pot begin placing the bulbs in order starting with the last flowering bulb .
The 1st layer of bulbs used are Daffodil Bulbs ( bulbs) x 9, placed upwards in a circle, not touching each other, approximately an inch apart. Cover these bulbs with 2 inches of the compost mix.
The 2nd layer of bulbs used are Tulip Bulbs (large bulbs) x 7, placed upwards in a circle, not touching each other, approximately an inch apart. Cover these bulbs with 2 inches of the compost mix.
The 3rd layer of Bulbs used are Alliums (small bulbs) x 5, placed upwards in a smaller circle, not touching each other. Cover these bulbs with 2 inches of the compost mix.
The 4th layer of Bulbs used are a mix of Chinodoxa (small bulbs) x 5 , Crocus (small bulbs) x 8 plus Bluebells (small bulbs) x 5 placed upwards in a circle, not touching each other.
Cover these bulbs with 2 inches of the compost mix. This forms the top layer ready for planting of your Winter Flowering Plants.
